I Am Talking About Christmas

Thought Number One:  Have a Politically Correct Holiday

Happy Holidays is now the politically correct term to say, as not to offend people of other religious or non-religious beliefs.  So here is a version of a toally PC greeting.

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions  of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2014, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other countries nor the only "America"  in the Western Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishes.

Thought Number Two:  To Those That Use the Word Christmas, Celebrate Christmas, and Are Comfortable with Embracing the holiday that is Christmas.

(Note:  While I gave it my best effort to add all my regular readers names, there may, in fact, be omissions. I assure you the absence of your name doesn't mean that you aren't on the "nice list" as much as it means my memory isn't what it used to be.)

  2. You are for sure on the nice list for making it home for Christmas...even if it took 23 hours.

  3. You're on my "nice" list too, Cheryl -- Merry Christmas!

  4. Oh my, now that PC "happy' greeting would make one Need to reach for a drink. Well done! I see Crabby Pants as put aside her usual self just to gift us all a wee smile. Hopefully a sled won't be the only method of transportation that you can use to travel around this Christmas! You're on my nice not naughty list, too. (okay, perhaps just a wee bit naughty, but only to enough to keep things interesting)
Have a truly Merry Christmas, Cheryl.

  5. Merry Christmas! I have to laugh, it's been some time ago, but I wished a gent Merry Christmas, he looked annoyed, and said "Happy Hanukkah." I thought about it for a second, and said, "Cool!" I don't know if it was the fact I liked it, or he wasn't expecting my response, but he laughed. I then said that I was happy that we could all celebrate, I wasn't real picky about the wording, and he left smiling. So, Happy Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy WHATEVER, just please, be good to each other!

Cat, who made the RIGHT list this time! ;)

  11. Haha...I can count on your keen observation. I wondered if anyone would notice that Crabby Pants had a smile on her face. Perhaps she was hoping to win over Santa at the last minute. Unfortunately, Crabby's name is not on the nice list but then neither is mine. (the only Cheryl is the talented photographer from Deckside Thoughts)

As we are still recovering from an icy, snowy storm from last weekend, perhaps the sleigh would be the desired mode of transportation but my current vehicle is doing OK as long as I keep it in 4 wheel drive and it doesn't require me to feed or clean up after reindeer.

You have been such a good and supportive friend, Wendy. I hope you have the Merriest Christmas and a Joyous New Year.

  12. I love that story, Cat. How many people just jump to the wrong conclusion so readily but then realize that there was no malice intended. I think it is so wonderful that you disarmed him and turned it into a good encounter. I agree, it shouldn't matter which word we use if we are conveying a positive greeting for someone to have a good Christmas, Hanukkah, or Whatever.

  15. Of course, you made the nice list. Was there ever a doubt???? It is still Christmas Eve here and our little grandsons left awhile ago to get home so Santa can come.

I wish you the Merriest Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  16. No legal department at TAOBC as we are too cheap to pay for an attorney but one can never be too careful these days in regards to who we may offend.

Hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas, Lisleman. Hopefully 2014 will have wonderful things in store for all of us.
