That Might of Been a Mistake

When Maimonides said:

It would seem that Maimonides didn't have the insight to know that by 2013, there would be people that could make "wrong decisions" of  EPIC proportion.

Yes, this week, Crabby and I are prepared  to question the validity of  "any decision is better than no decision".

Take for example:  Was the Mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford,  wise in telling the media on camera, that he did, in fact, smoke crack cocaine, but in his defense when he did...he was in a drunken stupor?  Yeh, perhaps NOT talking would have been a better approach.

But there were other bad decisions this week as well.

Pipe Down

Deputies said a man who was coming to court for a hearing at the Cowlitz County Hall of Justice was arrested after he put a meth pipe in a tray at the security checkpoint Tuesday.

Steven Todd Campbell, 51, was out on bail on charges of possession of methamphetamine and obstruction of justice.

The Cowlitz County sheriff’s office said when Campbell was asked to dump the contents of his pockets into the tray, he took out a three-inch pipe coated with brown residue and covered it with a piece of paper.

The deputy working the scanner recognized it as a pipe used to smoke meth and arrested Campbell.

Campbell was sent back to jail on another possession of methamphetamines charge.

You know it's going to be a bad day when you are headed to court on a drug conviction charge and you get charged with a drug possession charge.  Very deja vue-ish, I would think.

Should I or Shouldn't I?

A suicidal man who blew up his second-floor flat has been jailed for arson after a court heard his neighbors were lucky to escape the blast alive.
Michael McStay, 39, filled his home up with gas with the intention of committing suicide but then changed his mind and opened the windows to let the fumes out.

But before all the gas had escaped, McStay lit a cigarette, sparking an explosion which blew the roof off his upstairs flat and causing £270,000 of damage.
Newcastle Crown Court heard how residents living in the flat beneath McStay were fortunate not to be killed in the huge explosion.

McStay has now been jailed for 27 months after pleading guilty to arson.

Sentencing him, Judge Jeremy Freedman said: 'It was your intention to take your own life but you thought better of it and you opened the window and somewhat naively believed the gas would then escape. What you then did, as an act of folly, is light a cigarette and the inevitable happened. There was what can only be described as a massive explosion.

Now that is some serious indecision.  I think maybe the neighbors would of fared better with the original plan. Did the judge really use the word folly???

This House Comes With Income Potential

In all the years that I have been in real estate...not once while taking interior pictures, did I miss noticing the production of illegal drugs to the point that I included them in the homes pictures.  Oh, I have seen illegal drugs, I just chose not to put them into the pictures. But that is what happened in the UK, when a home in Eaton Bristol went on the market.

The firm describes the terraced house in Easton, Bristol, as being "in need of refurbishment". The ad also stated: "Victorian-style villa in need of refurbishment found on the cusp of Easton and Greenbank and comprising entrance hall, lounge, open-plan kitchen/dining room, with two bedrooms and first-floor bathroom.

The original photos showed the exterior, as well as a bathroom, kitchen, and garden.

AND what is being called a bedroom...

The manager of Besley Hill's Easton branch declined to comment.

Wonder how many people called in to ask if they were planning an OPEN HOUSE anytime soon.
What is really the worst  part as far as decisions go ...not removing "home based business"  before calling the Realtor or the Realtor including the picture into the advertisement?

Wife Made Bad Decision on Who to Marry

Jian Feng sued his wife for giving birth to what he called an “incredibly ugly” girl.

“I married my wife out of love, but as soon as we had our first daughter, we began having marital issues,” he told the Irish Times. “Our daughter was incredibly ugly, to the point where it horrified me.”

Initially Jian accused his wife of infidelity, because he knew he could never be the father of an unattractive child. However, DNA tests proved that the child was indeed his. Feng’s wife then came clean and admitted she had about $100,000 worth of cosmetic surgery done in South Korea before they met.

Feng sued his wife on grounds of false pretenses, for not telling him the truth about the plastic surgery, and duping him into believing that she was beautiful. A judge agreed with Feng’s argument and ordered his wife to fork over $120,000.

Now he is just being ugly. How does one say asshats (let's include the judge as well)  in Chinese?

I keep seeing blurbs about that court case in China. I read somewhere that it might not be a true story. I wish it wasn't, but I find it believable. I can't help but feel for the "ugly" child. How can he say that about his own baby? I feel for her and what she'll endure growing up. The judge and father are asshats (and that's putting it very nicely)!

Have a relaxing weekend, Cheryl.

It shows you how naive I am. I have no idea what that is in the room in that house. It looks like a lot of plastic bins and some garden compost to me :)

It's so hard to write satire these days because you really can't make this shit up.

Cheryl P. said...

I occasionally notice after-the-fact, that some of these news items are less than accurate. I looked that up on Snopes and they said it may be true but it it is then it happened around 2004 only to be recirculated as truth recently. They can't pin down it's origins. Let's hope it isn't based on truth and if it is, I hope the daughter turns out to be a beauty but tells her dad to go ...well you know...

You, too, have a great weekend.

Cheryl P. said...

I think it was the lingering smell and the ventilation pipes that sealed the deal on knowing they had been producing and packaging weed. I don't know much of that process as I have never been a drug dealer but I know what pot smells like. It's getting to be so common in any large gathering..ie concerts and such.

Cheryl P. said...

Scary, isn't it???? I would die of shock if there was actually a week that I didn't see any bizarre stories about people being dumbasses.

Have a great weekend, Jayne!

Wendy said...

well...it must be my space of mind this week, but I think there is more than stupidity happening here. It is more that these people see nothing wrong with their actions. A thought that is rather rampant. As a Canadian, I am APPALLED ( yes , in capitals) that the Mayor is still in office. Not that we don't all have life issues. But, who else would not have been arrested by now, as evidenced by your other stories? It is ILLEGAL to smoke coke. I know police officers who struggle with these issues, because of rampant, 'ah man, isn't no big deal.' It is a BIG deal when we have laws and a public figure blatantly breaks them and nothing happens. At least in your stories, when a crime was known to have happened, there were repercussions, as there should be. As long as those drug laws are laws, those breaking it need to be charged, It is important for the society, or otherwise, there is blatant disregard for the law and hence, the its no big deal ideology. As a political science student, this is exactly the stuff of class discussions. I agree with Jayne that writing satire is hard these days, when real life is the satire. But is that how it should be? Or rather, how society will function well? There is stupidity ( folly, the judge said!) and then there is a massive shift in the way a society values its laws.

You wouldn't believe I was part of the London scene in the 60's/70's, would you? Drugs just wasn't part of my life, or my friends either.

Cheryl P. said...

Same here. The 60s and the 70s had me just trying to do well in school and stay out of trouble. Nothing I did was at all adventuresome or daring.

Cheryl P. said...

As always, you and I are totally in sync. I watched the video of Rob Ford and had the same negative impression as I do with all the political buffoons that believe they can behave any way they want. Normally, it's U.S politicians but the premise is the same...big egos, money, power and bad behavior.

I believe in rules. I am a rule follower. They are set up for a reason. If the reasons aren't viable at some point the laws need to change. BUT when there is a law in place, why is it so casually dismissed.

I am rather surprised that the people of Toronto aren't having him ousted (or is that not an option for a mayor?) or sent to jail or something. He doesn't appear to be a competent leader. Although...I was reading an article just today about some of the people in Toronto's suburbs still backing him. One was quoted as saying "He may be an embarrassment but he isn't a thief?" Really?? That's how low the bar is set? Maybe the politicians that ARE thieves, should have a slogan that says "I may be a thief but I am not a murderer."

Wendy said...

Or, I may be thief but at least I am not an alcoholic drug user!

Cheryl P. said...

But if you were a thief and happened to use some drugs, ...saying you were drunk somehow would make it better...I guess. At least that is what Rob Ford thinks.

Chubby Chatterbox said...

I think I have that learning disability known as stupidity.

Pickleope said...

So much fun. So much fun here. In the first two, they were way too old to be so stupid. Just keep the crack pipe in your pants. And I won't even light a candle when I use my electric stove but this fan of folly sparked a cigarette and lived? If I were his neighbors, I'd want to make his initial desire of suicide a reality. I'd leave belts tied on the overhead pipes, open bottles of Tylenol everywhere, backward facing rifles (I think that model is called the Cobain) and play nothing but Radiohead songs.

lisleman said...

I think the first story just shows how addicting that crap is. Those addicts do become dangerous because they can't think straight anymore and are desperate.
Blowing up you house - reminds me of that story of the house exploding in Indianapolis a year of two ago. That explosion was set too. I wish we had another planet to send these people.
I guess those pot heads were hoping to sell the house to other pot heads. Not much work to move right into your pot growing business.
I heard about the Chinese guy on the radio. I feel very sad for the kids.

Cheryl P. said...

No way...everyone that reads your blog knows how very smart you are. Let's hope that most people are a few rungs up from the people that make the "weird news" posts.

Cheryl P. said...

That is too funny! Yes, Pickleope, I have to agree. While normally, I am not a huge fan of suicide, if I shared a flat with an idiot that was going to knock himself off and potentially take me in the process...I vote for him to go first. I like how you think. If you would do all of that for "inspiration", you might also take a moment and take his cigarettes and matches away. You could remind him, that " smoking can kill ya." (I am sure he would miss the irony.)

Debra She Who Seeks said...

Being in a drunken stupor is a time-honoured Canadian defence to all kinds of wrongdoing, I'll have you know.

Cheryl P. said...

So true...that poor slob's brain is stewed at this point. When he is more clear headed he is going to be kicking himself for not taking that out of his pocket.

I think that is a great idea about another planet. Space exploration and cleaning up our planet at the same time. WIN, WIN. You have such a good memory. I don't remember the Indianapolis house but I will look it up as soon as I am off here.

The pot distributors probably had to leave in a hurry but I find it odd that the Realtor, would include the picture in the listing. Either the agent is really stupid or there is a market there for houses that are pot farm ready.

Hopefully, in a case like that, the kids figure out early on that daddy is an idiot.

Some people are so bad at making decisions that they let the Media tell them who to vote for and actually believed it when that person told them the would get "free healthcare".

Ha ha ha isn't that funny. That's hysterical. They thought they would get free healthcare. Ha ha ha. What a knee slapper! Ha ha ha. Can you believe it.

Just when you thought people couldn't be any dumber....that same person said "If you like your current policy you can keep it, PERIOD."

That's right! They believed that whopper too. Ha ha ha. Oh my ribs are getting sore from so much laughter.

Then he said he was "sorry". You know some of those people still believe that Bullshit. Ha ha Ha. Stop it, you're killing me before Obamacare can.

Oh boy, what fun we had here tonight! I have to make a Doctor's appointment tomorrow to make sure I didn't crack a rib. May be my final Doctor's appointment if my Doc. decides to retire instead of take a pay cut from Obamacare.

Isn't that Funny?

Cheryl P. said...

Seems to work. I was reading an article today about Rob Ford. They said his popularity polls are still pretty decent in the suburbs. One of his constituents was quoted as saying "He may be an embarrassment but he isn't a thief?" You Canadians are really nice not to expect too much from politicians.

As I am from the U.S. I don't judge politicians from other countries. We have the distinction of having the most embarrassing and unethical politicians per capita than about anywhere...(OK, I might of made that up but I am pretty sure I'm right)

Agent 54 said...

These people voted for Obama.

Cheryl P. said...

I caution you Agent 54...under no circumstances go to the doctor to see if you cracked that rib laughing. It will cost you big money on top of the cost of the premium for the healthcare plan that may or may not be canceled soon.

Seriously, though...this is frustrating. I hope they get this resolved. As I am one of the people that has individual insurance, I am about to lose my mind over how difficult this has gotten. Oh but wait, that will be covered now if I still have insurance.

Cheryl P. said...

Lisleman, I looked that up and it all came back to me. Yeah, I do remember it now. That one took down a whole neighborhood. We probably need to start looking for a vacant planet. Let's make sure its really FAR, FAR away.

Agent 54 said...

The most frustrating thing for me is that a lot of people are so blind or apathetic or stupid that they will believe it when Obama blames the total collapse of our healthcare system on Bush.

lisleman said...

With the medical marijuana changes there might soon be a pot farm ready market.

AletaObrien said...

OMG, poor child! To have that type of story associated with her birth. Poor thing, not to be loved for the sake of love and then for the wife to admit to that kind of money on plastic surgery and look where it got her. Ugh.
And the man who lit the cigarette after deciding not to kill himself? IDIOTS! OMG… as bad as the gas station!

Good lawd. The whole world has gone mad.

****

And who the hell brings a meth pipe to court? WTF? OMG!

*****

"Now that is some serious indecision. I think maybe the neighbors would of fared better with the original plan. Did the judge really use the word folly???"

LOLZ I was totally focusing on that word too!!!

*****

"Now he is just being ugly. How does one say asshats (let's include the judge as well) in Chinese?"

That is such a HORRIBLE story! HOLY SHIT!

Cheryl P. said...

I hadn't thought about the gas station guy...seems to be a lot of guys playing with fire in the odd news as of late.
I looked up the ugly baby story on Snopes and there is an "unknown" factor to it. They said that while papers around the world are reporting it, it looks like it is old news and they can't confirm it. Let's hope that it's not accurate.

Cheryl P. said...

Yes, Meleah...the world has gone mad. AND if not mad then...it's gone stupid.
Don't you think he must of gone to court "under the influence" of something as well or wouldn't he of really left the crack pipe at home?
Yep, the downstairs neighbor probably wishes the guy was a more "focused and get the job done" kind of guy. Talk about bad neighbor. It would be hard to have a worse neighbor than that.
Some guys have no business getting married or having kids. But I always question the women that are willing to put up with their shit as well.

PROBABLY!

OK you know how I said I used to sit next to the crime reporter at work when I was a reporter? That newspaper was in Cowlitz County (Washington)!! I kid you not! And every year, she would do a "dumb criminals" roundup because there were so many of them.

I can't believe the judge ordered that poor woman to pay up! She should countersue for him being a prick.

Cheryl P. said...

I don't know, Jane...when they interviewed the neighbors to see if they knew anything about the pot operation, they said they occasionally saw the woman that lived there coming and going but didn't know her. Now that doesn't sound friendly at all. Don't you think they would of been much friendlier to her had they know she could of had given them weed.

Cheryl P. said...

I would love to know someone that works as a crime reporter. They should have the best stories ever. I used to know an emergency room nurse at Cook County Hospital (that worked 3rd shift) in Chicago that had some amazing stories.

I think the article said he divorced her but there seems to be some controversy as to how much of that is true. If that guy exists, I sure hope there is such a thing as Karma.

C'mon what's up with these old man crack heads? What happened to the days of simple DUIs? And that last one with Mr Feng, who said he married his wife for love and then sued her for having an ugly baby. What a dic#. No...that's what he used to pick his wife. Mr Feng needs to get his Feng Shui energy centered before he chooses his next wife. Unbelievable!

That pot house reminds me of a great story. Brandon does drywall, and one of the houses he went to recently was a retired very famous pro football player (name omitted to protect the innocent) who rented his house out in Colorado while he was staying in Vegas for the winter. Well, he came back only to find out that his tenant had turned the entire house into a grow house. In fact, the tenant actually tore down all of the walls so that the house was just one big open growing area for hundreds of plants. He even replaced all of the ventilation AC shafts with special ducts used to siphon out the smell, and the grow lights had been built into the ceiling. So the football player booted out the tenant (and did call the police), but till things were settled, he had to disgracefully ask for Brandon to rebuild all of the walls and the ceiling, while reminding him that they were NOT his and that you should NEVER rent out to someone without at least checking up on them every once in a while...

Cheryl P. said...

Funny how often you hear about people using crack and meth these days. Odd that people can't afford necessities but have the expendable cash to buy drugs.
Yeah, people (men or women) that put that kind of emphasis on "beauty" bug the livin' sh** out of me. I hope there is really a thing as Karma and he comes back as an ugly toad.

Cheryl P. said...

WOW..I can't even imagine coming home to find my house totally altered into a grow house. I hope Brandon got paid royally for rebuilding the place. I am not sure how someone would or could protect themselves though. On the rental agreement there would be questions concerning credit history and such but there is never a line that says "Do you plan of farming pot in the residence?" Even if there was...wouldn't someone just say NO. Stil..that is a interesting story.
