Friday Around the Water Cooler 7/01/2011

I have decided that I will be putting dates on the Friday Water Cooler posts so when I need to go back they should be easier to find the appropriate one that I am in search of.

This week is still looping the CRAP news loop from last week  (conflicts, rising water, Anthony trial and politics) from last week with a few additions.

Here are a few of the lesser aired stories that you might of missed.

DUSTY THE KLEPTO CAT DOES COMMUNITY SERVICE

In case you aren't familiar with Dusty and his ongoing life of crime, here is a video to get you up to speed.

Well, while no one is entirely sure if Dusty is reformed but last Saturday he did give back to his community by sponsoring a "Steal Your Heart" event for the Peninsula Humane Society.

Dusty was adopted from the Peninsula Humane Society as a kitten in 2006.  Reports said that Dusty remained calm as people made their donations to the cause and received a little towel with Dusty's name and paw print.  As community service goes it sound better than picking up trash along a highway...oh wait...I think Dusty likes picking up stuff.

I think Dusty looks good in black and white.

Gardening with your Husband

Gardening could be a great hobby to do with your husband providing both the wife and the husband are breathing.

In 2010,  it came to the attention of the Raleigh police department that something was amiss at the home of the now deceased Ruth Bostic had lived.  The mailman reported that the mail box was over flowing and she hadn't come out to greet him in over a month.

While the articles don't really tell the circumstances surrounding Ruth's demise, it does say that the neighbors were under the impression that David Bostic, Ruth's husband, was placed in a long term care facility after suffering a stroke. The police started the process of trying to find him.

Prior to her death the  eccentric Ruth, had told a number of people that she had put David in a nursing home in the mid 1990's.  She went on receiving Social Security benefits deposited into their joint account for the next 15 years before her own death.  In fact, she collected $93,000.00 in benefits for David.

While her house exterior and interior were both shabby and unkept her flower garden flourished.  The neighbors said she tended the garden regularly and appeared to talk to herself.  Because Ruth had no children and had become estranged from any remaining family members, no one actually went searching for David until Ruth died.

So in the news this week, we find out where David is.  He was planted in the flower garden.  One of the detectives starting putting together the pieces of the hours Ruth spent tending the garden while talking and decided to dig it up.  Sure enough, David was there.

I think both hubby and I would agree not to bury the "other" as it frankly would be a lot of work.  Kansas soil is crappy and that would be hard digging a hole big enough to accommodate a body.

Turtle Fun Run at JFK

This year as in previous years, there have been some flight delays due to the turtles that come out of Jamaica Bay in Queens to look for higher ground to lay their eggs.  It turns out that there is a nice sandy spot on the other side of the runways at JFK airport.

This week flights were delayed for about 30 minutes because of the closure of Runway 4L. Reports from the  airport stated this wasn't of any significance, they just had to move approximately 150 turtles to clear the runway. John Kelly, a spokesman, said in regards to the sandy area "It is a naturally provided turtle maternity ward.  When your airport is surrounded by water, your neighbors sometimes come in the hard shell variety."

On the Jet Blue Twitter account..Running over turtles is not healthy for them and it isn't good for our tires.

Another airline posted on their blog "the turtles were unsuccessful in getting a flight to the Caribbean. Maybe next year fellas."

From the control tower...One pilot said "We've got a couple of turtles storming the access road here to our right."  The response was " Are you really using the word storming about a turtle?"
In response to the headlines referring to the turtles as being SEX CRAZED, one Twitter account @JFKTurtles has the tweet  "we aren't as much sex crazed as we are motivated."

There was also the tweet "We go straight to the runway because it takes 5 hours to get out of our shells for the TSA."

Anything can be fun if viewed in the right perspective.

One more story for the week of a more serious nature...

What is worse than texting or sexting while driving?

A Florida man was arrested after another motorist reported that he had spotted a man smoking a bong while driving.

Phillip Winters, was taken into custody by the Cape Coral police after being stopped in a van with 5 young children passengers. He had been toking a marijuana pipe while driving.  Within the van there were additional pipes and marijuana residue.  At the time of the arrest the driver was showing signs of impairment according to the police report.

I am shaking my head in disbelief that people can be this stupid.

The Good for the Day...cats can be cute, even thieving cats.

The Bad for the Day...doing anything while driving other than driving

The Weird for the Day...sensationalizing a story to the point the the headline reads, SEX CRAZED TURTLES CLOSE JFK.   That is pandering to the salacious.

With that in mind, I was thinking about giving the turtles a theme song.  Doesn't everyone need a theme song??    I was torn between Avril Lavigne's Runaway, because of the line  "you can't kick me down, I'm already on the ground" ...perfect huh?? except for the part about crashing the car and the phone not working.

So I ended up choosing Runaway by Three Doors Down.  To make this theme song work, you have to think about it from a runaway turtle's point of view.

There's a lot of stuff going on around the water cooler, but none quite as hilarious as a cat dressed as a con! This was a great post Cheryl!

I also, think that Dusty is quite the charmer. He must be pretty friendly, too as my cat would claw me into raw meat if I tried to put a little convict costume on her.

Thanks for stopping by.

I read about that woman burying her husband in the garden! Apparently, she wasn't just "talking to herself," like the neighbors suspected.

That cat story cracked me the hell up!!! Especially watching it bring the good home. LOL

I think my hubby is grateful I'm not a great gardener.

No, the old girl was still in a relationship with her hubby. The conversation might have been a bit one sided but then again, maybe not.

I think that cat is really cute. I love how forgiving the neighbors are. I have one neighbor that would have both me and the cat locked up.

No, my husband knows there isn't a chance in hell that I would dig a hole that big. My idea of of "work" would be having to make the calls to a bobcat operator and getting price quotes on the excavation. Wouldn't that make for an interesting conversation. Lady what is the hole for? Nothing in particular but I need it 6 foot 5 inches in length.

Dusty!

I get the biggest kick out of seeing the night video of him as he's coming home with his most recent booty! =) Too cute!

You know, there are days that planting the husband in my garden...doesn't sound all that bad actually! *snort* =)

"From the control tower...One pilot said "We've got a couple of turtles storming the access road here to our right." The response was " Are you really using the word storming about a turtle?"" --- Best air traffic noise EVER!! I wish I'd actually heard the recording of that conversation! That's so awesome! =) I hate being in planes but I love being able to listen into the radio traffic between the tower and the pilots! =)

God Loves Ya' and have a BLAST of a 4th!

I think that Dusty is hilarious. 600 things in 3 years is pretty awesome. AND he is cute.
Evidently husbands make good fertilizer. Every article said her garden 'thrived". I am not willing to plant hubby but there are a few neighbors that I'd let come over and fertilize my flowers if you know what I mean.

I got a kick out of the "stormin'" line too. You are the only one that mentioned it. I love your sense of humor.

Cheryl P. said...

Why thank you Don E.

A pervert alert??? Can it be? That must be one very busy alert system. I am pretty sure the perverts and weirdos are the largest increasing segment of our population. I have sent a letter to the census bureau to include some pertinent questions on the next census to try to come up with a number. I have not heard back.

Have a fun 4th yourself.

Don E. Chute said...

I think the question should be included..."Are you a pervert? and have you ever associated yourself with a pervert?"

Talk about pervert dirt!

Don't let your sparklers go off to close to home!

Cheryl P. said...

But there lies the rub (and I try not to use that word around real perverts) When asked "are you a pervert?" a real pervert says "no". The freaks don't consider themselves freaks. They think that everyone hears voices in their heads.

LOL - well if you don't like my sense of humor by now you probably never would! =)

How does your garden grow? I shall never look at a beautiful flower garden the same way again.

Cheryl P. said...

hi Gailatthefarm, Oh, I don't want to take any joy away from future flower gardening from you. Let's romaticise and think she just couldn't have David very far from her.

I love to see new names in the comments. Thanks for coming over and leaving a message.
