Lines that are not so Fine

Two Thoughts for Tuesday

Thought #1 - What is this "Fine Line" that people refer to as  being crossed...

Yesterday on my post  Over the Line I was talking about crossing the "invisible line" of what is acceptable for certain age groups to wear.  Not that we would melt into a puddle of goo, if we chose to put on too short of skirt or too high of heels (I know... even from here, I hear you screaming "what, what" ...are you insane?... there is no such thing as too high of heels".)  But here I am, thinking about all the "fine lines" that come into play in our lifetime.

There are those "damn lines" that some commercials call "fine" lines.  There isn't anything fine about these...no nothing at all.  Those are actually the opposite of fine. UNFINE LINES

And there is the line that we cross without even being aware of it until....one day you are a MISS...the next day you are a MA'AM.

Then there is the "fine line" where the "powers-that-be" no longer ask you for this....

Now they want to see this:

Thought Number Two...Some possible lines you may want to tread cautiously over.

How many cats does it take you from being a  CAT LOVER to being a  CAT LADY?

How many extra pounds does it take to take you from being BIG BONED  to being FAT?

How much skin is exposed before SEXY becomes SLUTTY?

How much "couch surfing" do you do before your buds quit calling you a FRIEND  and now refer to you as a  FREELOADER?

How many CHILDREN can you have before you are a REALITY SHOW?  (at least 19 it would seem)

How many TRAFFIC TICKETS does it take before the local police force refer to your car as the DEATH-MOBILE?

How many times did you color your hair before people quit asking "DOES SHE OR DOESN'T SHE?" and went right to  "SHE DEFINITELY DOES"?

How many times do you offer "CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM" before you are known as a 'TOTAL BITCH?

How many cosmetic procedures did you have done before it went from "OMG, YOU LOOK FABULOUS!" to "HAVE WE MET?"

So my blogee, friends, I ask you....what lines have you crossed??????

As a former portrait painter I often struggled with those so-called laugh lines. Sitters didn't want them but they are so important in capturing personality.

I see those lines as adding character to everyone else...just not me. HA...on me they add age.

Good questions, Cheryl...but that stuff about the facial lines reminded me of that time I was recording a video and my young son comes up to me (while I'm recording!!!) and says, "Mom, you've got crow's feet". All I could think of was Geez, thanks! Now I've got that recorded...(the reality was I didn't get much sleep the night before so my eyes did look more tired than usual). Oh well!

By the way, I like that first picture you have there...that one with the gold guy crossing the line. That is soooo cute!!!

I've crossed the Miss to Ma'am line. And I'm not all that thrilled about it.

Now you have it saved for posterity. I unfortunately, can't say there is a connection between my lack of sleep and my crow's feet. They are permenant residents no matter how little or much sleep I get. Oh well!

No way!!! You should still be a miss!!! I think there should be a law that ma'am can't be used on someone in their 30's.

That was a line that I past a really long time ago. The other night someone called me "miss" and I was concerned that maybe they were legally blind.

Yeah, I've crossed many of those lines, but I seem to be know at home for crossing the "How many times do you offer "CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM" before you are known as a 'TOTAL BITCH?" line. Apparently my attempts to be helpful are sometimes a little misconstrued LOL Oh well, their loss....

Now the driver's license line... I find that when the people at the liquor store know you by name they stop asking for the license...

Great post!

Hi Cheryl,

I can't say that I've crossed from the Miss to Ma'am, I'm not a couch surfer, I've gone over the list multiple times and the only thing I can come up with is I've crossed the line line from SEXY to SLUTTY LMAO!

Thanks for the great post and a good laugh,
Wolf

Holy crap! I've crossed a bunch of those!! The too-high heels lines (although it pains me to write too-high!), the too-short skirts line, the laugh lines, the constructive criticism line, the ma'am line, the too many children line...

I'm going to stop now before I cross a line! :-)

I am sure that I have the constructive criticism one covered as well. We are such helpers...give and give...right????

At my age if someone ID-ed me, they would have to preform CPR. It's just easier to sell me whatever I want.

HHHaaaa HHHaaaa that is too funny. Best to keep your clothes on if people are thinking you're slutty. Now that you mention it, I only thought of the line crossing from a woman's perpective for the most part. What do you guys consider as crossing the line???? Trump has crossed a line from comb overs but I don't know how I would phrase the sentence. What other lines can anyone come up with for men????

Cheryl P. said...

First of all, let's just put it out there....you never cross the line. Anything you do just adds to your charm.

I definitely have crossed more than my fair share of lines. The laugh lines, constructive critcism line and the Miss to ma'am line for absolutely sure.

This was hilarious! I may have crossed some of the lines you mentioned and am trying to have the last laugh. Great post!

meleahrebeccah said...

Oh, I agree with that law!

Cheryl P. said...

Hi Anne, thank you!! I am thinking that is a great goal...to have the last laugh.

LOL!!! I love this post! Fine lines indeed;) I've crossed many lines, some intentionally and others unknowingly. I prefer to be aware of my line crossing rather than bear the embarrassment of having somebody else point it out: "Hey lady, that champagne is for the wedding party!" or, "We don't wear two piece bathing suites at the Southern Napsters Church Pool." LOL!!
I love your humor Cheryl!!! It must be fun to be you <3

I crossed so many lines that in my sunset years I can't even remember them all which is probably a good thing for all concerned.

Cheryl P. said...

Hi Leah, did you think I forgot you today??? I have been on the road today and just now getting back.

How funny are you? Embarrasing moments happen to the best of us but most of mine aren't funny even in hindsight.

Sometimes it's fun to be me but sometimes not so much.

Cheryl P. said...

I was just saying pretty much that to Leah. I have crossed the line a number of times and if I even remember...which I don't always...they aren't the things that people say "You will laugh about this someday". Most of my unintentional faux pas' are better forgotten.
