Carmen has a new Toy

Last Wednesday morning hubby came down stairs to find Carmen, one of our cats, had a new toy in her mouth.  Well, I am thinking, she was thinking it was a toy.  Maybe she thought it was a friend.  I am not exactly sure.

While I was still upstairs, blissfully unaware of Carmen making friends in the dining room, I prefer to think it looked something like this.

However, hubby assures me that the little critter that she was interacting with probably looked more like this.

Since, I wasn't there and hubby quickly scooped up Carmen's little friend and made a beeline with him/her/it outside before I came down the stairs, I couldn't swear to exactly what the little friend looked like.

I do know if I would have seen it there would have been something that looked like this.

I don't tend to have a large number of "fears".  I don't fear flying, being in the dark and I don't have claustrophobia or hypochondria.  In fact, I don't have any of the fears that SelfHelpCollective seems to think are the top 10 fears.

I know that there is nothing logical about this fear of mice.  I have heard all the adages like "It's more afraid of you than you are of it".  Bullsh**, it couldn't possibly be.  I am paralyzed with fear and the few encounters I have had with the nasty little rodents tell me they are not frozen with fear as they still scamper quite nicely after seeing me.

Luckily for all involved, we have only had a few instances of these nasty little invaders. Our Carmen thinks they are great fun to knock around a bit, then carry around in her mouth.  Disgusting, I know... but the flip side of that is there have only been 3 mice that have ever dared enter our house and they didn't last long.

None the less, just to be sure that she hadn't missed any relatives of the little booger she had hanging out of her mouth, I called....

Ed, from Critter Control assures me that there are no signs of a brother, sister, cousin, or any extended family members of the evicted mouse but he did a little sealing around pipes and such just to appease me.  Unfortunately for Ed, while he was going around sealing up my house to be the equivalent of a mouse's version of Fort Knox, the tornado sirens sounded  (yet again!!!) and he had to spend time in our basement family room.  Remember, this was last Wednesday, here in KC.

So it seems, we had one rogue mouse in our house. He/she/it had the unpleasant experience of taking a ride in Carmen's mouth only to be unceremoniously booted out on his/her/it  little mousy posterior and Carmen remains ...The World's Best Mouser.

The Good for the Day ....I am sure you all have seen this as it has gone viral BUT it is sooooo cute

The Bad for the Day...It could have been very sad for Ed, from Critter Control, to be blown away while looking for a mouse at my house...that of a total stranger with a crazy fear of mice.

The Weird for the Day.... I find that in fearful situations if you think of the target of your fear as if it were animated, the fear lessens.  Isn't picture of first mouse much less "eeeekkkk"  than the second picture?

What are your fears?  Are they rational?  Oh.... maybe the real questions should be.... do other people think they are rational?

Maybe the less seen the better? It's possible Carmen's protected you from WAY lots more of those scary little things than you even suspect. If that's the case then good for her, and you too.

I had a Bichon Frise named Carmen. She was our guardian angel. She protected us from our fears too. Once my daughter was afraid there were monsters in her room so I let Carmen sleep with her and told her Carmen had a special power to keep them away. It worked.

LOL! You would not do well in my rural abode where "field" mice know no boundaries. I'm so used to them now, I just cover them with a plastic carton, slip a piece of cardboard under them and march them outside. But it wasn't always this way. You'll appreciate this:

I went back and read your post. LMAO...I love that passport-to-freedom idea. I will have a plastic container and cardboard ready for future livestock moves. Hopefully, I will never need it. Truly, mice just creep me out.

I do love dogs, I do. But Miss Carmen keeps these nasty rodents from ever hiding when they sneak in. She alerts us so we can boot them out on their furry little asses. The thought of a mouse going unoticed in my house is worse that her bringing it to our attention.

Our Siberian, Kiwi once brought a squirrel into the house. She blew by me, went right under our bed, and had a feast. By the time Brett got to it all that was left was the head, which he wanted to put under his sister's pillow. Lucky for her I got to him before he did it.

You are made of strong stuff, my friend. I am the biggest woose on the planet. If there was a dead squirrel in my house, I would be checking into the Residence Inn until Ed, from Critter Control was back at my house removing a squirrel carcass. Yikes!!!

Go Carmen!! My boys are the same way. Every once in a while we get one in the house, and the boys catch it and we heap loads of praise, treats, hugs and kisses on them for being so awesome.

I'm not particularly afraid of mice, but most definitely don't want to reside with them.

Spiders, especially ones that are as big as my fist...freak me out.
Bees and wasps, especially the ones that are as big as my foot...send me squealing in the other direction.

Oh, you have boy kitties!!! Maybe I could photoshop little baseball caps on them instead of tieras.
I think I am OK with spiders, even the big ones. I have lived in Texas after all. Excellent training for BIG bugs.

I bought a house last June and for the first time in my life there are centipede's and mice in the house. My wife is terrified and so are my dogs. I have 2 Bichon Frise's, they are fearless when it comes to people or other dogs...But I think they are scared of mice and centipedes...I'm thinking about getting a cat, but I'm afraid the dogs might not get along.

Centipedes are the easier to get rid of I think. There are some great products that are on the market now that you spray on the exterior of your house and they do a pretty good job of keeping insects away. Any of the big box stores carry a variety of those types of products.
As for the mice...there are a lot of things you can try. I have had two mice in the last 7 years and Carmen (the cat in my blog) caught them both but I did as a precaution put some bait stations on the exterior of my house behind some shrubs. Also, look around and see if you see any openings that are letting them in. Caulk around where pipes and wires enter your house or anyother types of cracks or openings.
Because I am a real estate agent, I have had to do this on vacant houses and usually I can figure out where they are getting in. Often through the garage and then I put out D Con trays of the granular kind in the corners of the garage.
As for the dogs not getting along with the cat. I used to have both and they hated each other at first. They got used to each other. Unfortunitely our dog got liver disease and died. I guess if you decide to go in that direction talk to the people at the local shelter or animal rescue and find out if the animals just aren't able to adapt, could you bring the cat back. They always know which cats are comfortable around dogs as well so that helps.
Thank you so much for visiting my blog. Email me at my email address, if I can help you in any way.
