New Twist on an Old Joke

Today, I am doing my two thoughts a bit differently.  I am breaking down an old standard Christmas song and infusing it with how someone might handle it today.  Be forewarned that my more modern version is that of a tech savvy girl that is at her wits end with an over zealous beau.

 So today...I have two thoughts.

Thought Number One: The original song " The 12 Days of Christmas".

Thought Number Two: How would the lyrics stand up to today's culture.

A couple of quick notes:  For those of you that are a bit sensitive to "course" language....my apologies in advance.  I am making fun here of  how the poem could go bad in the age of texting...this is a joke after all.

Also, If you have trouble reading any of the  phones, click on them to enlarge them.

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me a partridge in a pear tree.

On the 2nd day of Christmas my true love gave to me, two Turtle Doves and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the 4th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, 4 calling birds, 3 French Hens, 2 Turtle Doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On the 5th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me 5 golden rings, 4 calling birds, 3 French Hens, 2 Turtle Doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Hah. I never actually realized that there are so many birds in this carol. Apparently there is Christian symbolism to each of these, ie each number refers to a Christian concept, like 10 for ten commandments, although I am highly doubtful of this.
but oh what fun you've had here with this old carol. Nice touch with the cell phone. Hum, what carol could you try next?

There are certainly thousands of choices of what carols I could taint and destroy but perhaps I should leave things alone. I never had heard about the correlation to Christian symbolism. Am I going to hell???

Kathleen, I got your comment, thank you for the sweet comment. I have no idea why your actual comment didn't show up here but it does show on my admin site. Crazy.

Maybe it will still show up.

There's your comment...It was MIA for awhile. I picked it up on my admin site this morning but it wasn't here where I could respond. Thank you Kathleen, that is very sweet of you. Hope you are having a good week.

I am so glad you found it funny. I agree about not realizing how many birds there are in that song until I started typing it out. Holy moley..If someone actually got that many birds she would of killed the guy.

Humor is so subjective isn't it? I am really glad you found the humor in it. I know there will be some that don't. Ah...we are all so different aren't we? Thanks for continuing to follow my antics. I appreciate it.

OK, one small correction. According to an ornithology site I visited, the five golden rings are ring necked pheasant, so your foul mouthed chickie would be even more ticked.

Great post ... and clicks

Well, to bring it back to my modern man,...the one that has drug lords and strippers in his life...he knows nothing of ornithology. His big decision in all of this was whether to make the golden (faux, I'm sure) rings, rings for her fingers or rings for her nipples. I am imagining him as a super classy guy.

Good job on the rewrite. I can see how it could get a bit out of hand. I don't think I'd want all those fowl fouling my house.

Cheryl P. said...

No...I wouldn't want the birds but I might consider the gold rings.

Madeleine said...

Fun and funny. what would a middle class girl do with all that stuff?

Cheryl P. said...

Why thank you, Madeleine for stopping by and commenting. I think a girl would be ebaying a bunch of birds. As for the drug lords, the pole dancers, and the crack pipe smokers, I suspect if I said, "Hey guys, my brother and father who happen to be cops are stopping by in about 20 minutes"...they would high tail it out of there. (no my relatives aren't cops..but the lords, the dancers and the crack pipe smokers wouldn't take the chance to see if I am a liar.
The gold rings...the middle class girl keeps.
Thanks again for coming to visit.

So funny...love it. Peter and I do a 12 days of Christmas at our house...just simple, silly, things ( with a couple of nice gifts thrown in) sure glad it isn't the birds, strippers and drug lords...LOL..you are toooo funny! Have a great Christmas!

Cheryl P. said...

Thank you so much Brenda. That was one of those posts that I was a tad worried some people wouldn't find the humor in. What's funny is really subjective.

I like the idea of celebrating 12 days of Christmas. It extends the fun a bit. It's a bit of a disappointment to have everyone just rip through the presents in 20 minutes and it's over. We are trying to put more emphasis on other things besides gift buying.
