When Pigs Fly

Crabby Pants and Reporter Cheryl P. on the hunt for odd news

In a Pig's Eye

Yesterday I woke up to hear a strange report on  the local Kansas City news. A gas station attendant found  an insulated  medical cooler containing two eyeballs that had been  left on top of a trash can at a Conoco gas station. Yes, you read that correctly...eyeballs.  Two eyeballs packed in ice in a cooler just sitting there.  Needless to say, this caused a bit of a panic.  Who leaves their eyeballs at the gas station?

It turns out that two men in a blue Toyota with Nebraska plates left them there, according to the security cameras.   Still, the investigators were concerned that perhaps these were supposed to be at an eye bank and that there might be some urgency involved in figuring out where they belonged. However, police called all the area hospitals and transplant centers and none were expecting deliveries of eyes.

New Controversy Coming Out of Washington DC

Holy Moly...we have another HUGE controversy taking over Washington!!!!

You know, I typically try to avoid jumping into any topic relating to politics.  I have found there are a  few subjects just too volatile for my blog.  But for the purposes of today's post, I am jumping into the fray of a political firestorm.

Which storm, you ask?  There are several to pick from.

NO, not the Fiscal Cliff fiasco.  There were a some concessions reducing it's elevation a bit. Now it appears to be more of a Fiscal Gangplank.

NO, no juicy sex scandals for today.  (Be patient...I am sure you won't have to wait very long.)

NO, I am not even talking about the new pay raise for Congress.

OK...try one more time.

NO, wrong again.  I am not referring to the fact that the Fiscal Cliff debacle gave the algae growers $59 MILLION dollars in tax credits.  But to be fair....that is a great guess!

Crazy Didn't Take a Holiday Break

I hope you understand that the "crazy" in today's title is NOT referring to ME but to the subjects in the odd stories I am talking about today.  Not entirely convinced are you??

Did you think I forgot to do my Friday roundup of ODD news?  No such luck.  I am in Chicago while Hubby is working today.  The people in charge of the weather here, didn't get my memo that I only wanted snow for Christmas morning.  I definitely didn't want to be driving around Chicago in the snow.  Have I ever mentioned that I think the drivers here are...oh maybe I better not go "there".  As this is the city of my birth, I have to be careful how I disparage anyone related to Chicago.

As for some of the odd news this week, let's just start with a local story out of Oak Park.

Every Party Has a Pooper

It seems that the party-pooper in this story is an FBI agent.

An Illinois man who admitted planning a bank robbery to fund his going-to-jail party for a drug conviction was sentenced to 19 months of prison time.

Mickey Loniello was already facing a lengthy sentence for drug offenses committed in 2007. To throw one last, fun bash prior to his trip to prison, he and two co-conspirators made plans to steal a getaway car and rob a Chase Bank branch in Oak Park, IL.  However, one of his co-conspirators was an undercover FBI agent wearing a wire. (seems you have to be careful about who you hang out with if you are planning a bank robbery.)

After receiving the 19 month sentence last Thursday, Mickey said he wasn't in his right frame of mind at the time he was planning the bank robbery because of his heroine addition.  The judge responded saying "that the fight against drugs is difficult but can be done."

Seems that being confined to a jail cell would make getting off of heroine somewhat easier.  BTW...he was sentenced on Thursday for crimes committed in 2007.  The wheels of justice move rather slowly, don't they?

Now You See Us...Now You Don't

Police in Sweden are looking for 69 missing cows that vanished from a farm the very day they were to be slaughtered.

Farmer Claes Roempke of Stjamhov, said he is baffled by their disappearance. The cows are valued at $107,600.

The farmer was quoted as saying "I  have no idea where they have been taken. I hope they are alive and OK."  (Seriously....he is worried about their welfare???)

The police are investigating the missing cows. They have ID numbers on all the bovine and think that it isn't likely that the animals will be taken to a slaughterhouse.

I think we are dealing with really smart cows here that made a break-for-it.

Things Not to Say to a Policeman

A woman who said she was delivering a Christmas tree to a friend was stopped after she was spotted by a deputy driving on the wrong side of the road. She was driving south on U.S. 1 in the northbound lanes....at 12:45 AM...with no headlights on.

It would appear that Debra McSween didn't want to be stopped. She told the officer that she had been drinking, doesn't drive well at night, wasn't familiar with the car, didn't know the area well, had taken a hydrocodone for her back, oh and that he could "eat sh**".

She went on to threaten him and make some other less than-classy remarks.

Debra was arrested for DUI, crimes against persons, harming a public servant, resisting an officer, and obstruction.

Bet her friend didn't get the Christmas tree delivered.

The Curse of Being Irresistible

Doesn't he look totally innocent???
The all male Supreme Court of Iowa ruled that Melissa Nelson's termination wasn't sexual discrimination because it wasn't based on gender.  Rather she was fired for  her boss and his wife feeling she was a threat to their marriage.  (for anyone wanting to place a bet, I bet that the firing was 99.99 percent the wife's idea, and  .01 percent the boss')

Ms Nelson worked as a dental assistant for James Knight for more than 10 years. She contends that she only wore scrubs (nothing sexy) and was not flirtatious. She didn't feel her termination was fair as she did nothing wrong.  She is happily married with children and was in no way attracted to her boss.

Dr. Knight's lawyer said that the doctor agonized over terminating her as she was the best assistant he ever had.

During testinmony, Dr. Knight said having her there was like having a Lamborghini in the garage and never being able to drive it.

I think Ms. Nelson got lucky to get out of working for this guy. OINK OINK

Shouldn't They Be Out Shopping?

I would think that there would be no weird news this week because everyone should be otherwise occupied getting ready for the holidays.  I guess there is still time to get in a bad decision or two.

Over Her Dead Body

A Nebraska man has been accused of impersonating a funeral director. (who knew that this was such a problem that there are actual laws against it?)

Terry Kruthals went to a mortuary about two weeks ago pretending to be a mortician. He told the an employee of Wadlow Rozanke Funeral Home in Lincoln, NE,  that he was a representative of the family of one of the deceased in their care.

The body of an ex-girlfriend was at the funeral home and Terry was trying to retrieve an engagement ring he had given her with an estimated current value of around $500.00. However, when the funeral director asked Terry a few work related questions, he appeared nervous which prompted the police to be called.

Kurtzhals was arrested for impersonating a funeral director but upon further investigation several additional charges were added.

I think this poor dead girl is the unluckiest person I have ever read about.  It's bad enough...dying and all.... but she was engaged to a shmuck.  He gave her a  $500.00  engagement ring set AND then wanted to swipe the engagement ring off her poor dead finger.  Also, it must be noted, if you feel the need to pretend to be a mortician, there might be a quiz.

Last One Standing Gets the Beer

Vanessa Robinson was charged with aggravated assault after she allegedly cut her boyfriend numerous times because he was trying to leave her apartment with the last beer..a Colt 45 to be specific.

The altercation happened in Hempfield Township, PA.  The boyfriend, James Gallone, had purchased the beer and when it was time to leave, assumed it was his.  He assumed wrong.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, when Vanessa realized that James was taking the last beer, she started kicking and pushing before grabbing a knife. James was unable to disarm her and ended up in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Vanessa ended up in jail.

Call me a skeptic but this relationship might be doomed.  If they stay together, James better share the beer and hide the knives.

Very Expensive Breast Augmentation

Police in Spain arrested at the Barcelona airport was hiding more than 3 pounds of cocaine in her breast implants.

Perhaps she had a tattoo that triggered their suspicions

The woman arriving from Columbia was detained after security noticed two recent surgical scars under her breasts. The woman was taken to the hospital where it was discovered that there was cocaine in her implants. Some had seeped into her blood stream.

After reading several articles in my quest to find out what tipped authorities off, ABC news said that security noticed white patches under her fresh surgical wounds.  Huh?  While I am still not entirely clear why they would be checking out her breasts, it must be noted that being tidy is always a good thing.

May Your Christmas Be Merry and Bright...No... Nix the Bright

A Wichita, Kansas man got a ticket on Tuesday.David Hill decked out his pickup for the holidays.  HO HO, OH NO...He got stopped and ticketed.

David had decked out his truck to bring attention to his charity, One Spark. The charity provides holiday joy to the less fortunate around Wichita by providing food, coats and toys for the needy.

So when he covered his pickup truck with lights a couple of weeks ago, he thought it would bring some cheer to people.

Surprise, Surprise!  David got stopped and given a $274.00 ticket.  According to Police lieutenant Joe Schroeder, it's an issue of safety.  He believes that people will be distracted by the colorful truck and accidents will follow.

856 lights and one ticket later

I think the Wichita Police department just made Santa's naughty list.

In Hot Water

Who got themselves into trouble this week? Lindsey Lohan is back in the headlines but, I guess that isn't really new. There have been a few missteps by politicians this week as well.  Again, that isn't necessarily news. So who should we talk about today?

It Was An Accident

Hmmmm, lets start with the on-going trial in LA of  David Viens.  David claims to accidentally  killed his wife then cooked her body for four days in boiling water to get rid of the evidence. His wife went missing in late 2009 but it wasn't until 2011 that authorities put together what may of happened.

David Viens has pleaded not guilty to murdering his wife Dawn.  His story is that after discovering some money missing from the restaurant he owns, Thyme Contemporary Cafe,  in Lomita, California, he suspected his wife.  He went home and according to him they had a fight.  He wrapped her up and placed duct tape over her mouth, after which he went to bed.  When he woke up 4 hours later, she was dead.  (oops...purely accidental) He was quoted as saying " “You know, she had issues with everybody ... She ended up, you know, becoming a mean drunk." (Really...he's saying she was the mean one?)

Being a chef and all....the logical thing to do was cook her, I guess.  He put her in a 55 gallon drum with boiling water.  Over the next four days he boiled down her remains putting some into the grease trap at work and some in the regular trash.  He claims the only part that was left was the skull which he put in his mother's attic. Unfortunately for the prosecution, a search of the house and the restaurant turned up nothing.

Upon hearing that he was a suspect in the case, David jumped off an 80 foot cliff. He is attending his trial in a wheelchair. (My, my, doesn't he sound like a guy that thinks things through)

Well, isn't this one for the books or at least a TV movie.   I would be very nervous if I had ordered the soup in late October in 2009 at his restaurant.

Talk the Talk

I feel remiss in not having reminded you about  September 19th being "International Talk Like a Pirate Day".  I was rather busy last Wednesday and let the big day get by me.

Just to catch you up on the history of  Talk Like a Pirate Day. It began in 1995 when two friends, Matt " Cap'n Slappy"  Summers and John "Ol' Chumbucket" Baur started bantering in "pirate talk" on a racquetball court. What began as a small group of friends participating in an excuse to party, quickly spread.

When David Barry wrote a column for the Miami Herald  in 2002 about it, the idea became widespread. Since then, thousands of cities around the world have made Sept. 19th "Talk Like a Pirate" Day".

BUT...every party has a pooper and that pooper seems to be Jo-Ann  Golden of Lake Worth, Florida.
The current mayor, Mayor Pam Triolo read a proclamation at the start of Tuesday's city commission meeting encouraging the town's residents in participating in the fun of the holiday. The Palm Beach Post reported in part on Thursday;

"The City of Lake Worth is known to possess a spirit of independence, high spirits and swashbuckling, all traits of a good pirate," the proclamation states. "It's fun to talk like a pirate by using words like Arrrrr, ye and bilge rat."
The proclamation was intended as a lighthearted recognition of the holiday as well as City Manager Michael Bornstein's well-known love of pirate lore.

Jo-Ann Golden, a former City Commissioner, isn't finding fun or humor in talking like a pirate.  She said in an email to the City Manager that pirates are known to murder, steal,  and hold victims for ransom. She feels that it isn't politically correct and encouraging pirate talk is dumbing-down America.
In a response to her email, City Manager Bornstein responded "I'm so sorry you find this fun, silly proclamation anything more than that.  I could easily become consumed with a sense of over correctness in almost everything involved with government.  However, I refuse to become devoid of all the wonderful human emotions including, most importantly, humor".

ARRRG, Way to go, Matey...arrggg, I mean Mr. City Manager. I think per chance that modern day pirates don't go around with parrots on their shoulders and talking pirate talk.

She Looks Like a Pirate

A British woman who shouted, "I'm Jack Sparrow," at police officers while stealing a ferry was sentenced to 112 days in prison.

Alison Whelan, who the Torquay, England, court heard had been drunk for two days and taking hallucinogens when she and a friend took shelter on the Paignton Pleasure Cruises' Dart Princess ferry was found guilty of aggravated vehicle taking and sentenced Wednesday to 112 days in prison, the BBC reported Thursday.

Whelan called an ambulance to the ferry because she thought she was having a seizure but upon their arrival she started shouting "I'm Jack Sparrow and set off with the ferry.

The theft set off a chase lasting for more than an hour involving police, the coast guard and the local lifeboat service. The ferry sustained about $2,430 worth of damage from colliding with two other vessels during the chase.

Ashley Lane, operations manager for Paignton Pleasure Cruises, said the incident could have been far worse.
"The fact is that, had circumstances been different tide-wise, it could have been serious," Lane said. "She could have seriously been injured had it gone out of the river."

So now we know that 2 days of drinking and taking a hallucinogen can have the side effect of "turning one into a pirate".  This needs to be added to the warning label.

Money the Root of All Discord

Two Thoughts for Tuesday

During my bowl of oatmeal this morning, I caught a tidbit that the big story that is to excite and incite me at 4:30 on the channel 5 news is "Money is causing tension in marriages".  Wow, what a news flash....

Thought #1  "Money is causing increased tension in marriages."

I can hardly wait for 4:30 to find out that people are disagreeing over money and that it is news.
Frankly, I thought that caveman spouses spent their day fighting over the number of rocks each of them had.
According to the promo, the economy is the blame.   HMMMMM ....call me suspicious.

While I am thoroughly on-board blaming the economy on all the evils of the world, I think there might have been some marital discord regarding money even when the economy was booming.  (I can't be certain of this as my memory only goes back so far)

The fact that I have been in real estate for a lot of years and prior to that I worked as a bank manager at one point, I will tell you that I have had the pleasure of seeing a lot of people's personal financial information.  Always a really good time!  Really, if ever given the chance to look at peoples finances...do.  It's pretty fun.
(Oh, by the way...I am known for being a snoop...check out the levels of my snoopydom at Simply Junebug. I am over there right now, going through her stuff.)

My guess is the 90 percent of spouses look at money differently.  I would say 100% but there must to be some that are either super naive to what the other is actually doing, just plain stupid or one of the partners is just fine at letting the other take control of the money.  Take your pick.

A few year ago, I happened upon an interesting couple.  The couple  looked to be the perfect, successful, middle-class wage earners. Decent house, nice cars, two kids and a dog...you know the type...All looked pretty rosy.

Turns out husband (jerk) was in charge of all the bill paying, tax paying, and wage earning.  While from a wife's perspective this sounds AWESOME.  BUT...not so fast.  Husband (a**hole) had a gambling problem and wasn't paying the bills with his "more than adequate" wages.  He was particularly clever in covering his trail, however.   Some of his clever tactics to keep wifey from realizing his "problem" was that he filled out fake tax returns, had her sign them and never actually paid taxes.  He also, took a 2nd mortgage out on the house and for this he forged her name.  Turns out neither of those things are legal.  (who would have guessed?)

Of course, she did eventually find out when she got the foreclosure notice on the house and then got a letter from the IRS.  The down side of this particular money disagreement was that she lived in a community property state and was left hold 1/2 of the bag.  I might add that bag was pretty hefty.  The back taxes and penalties were in the millions.

This couple had some tension in their marriage regarding money before and after the divorce.

Another example:  When I was still managing the bank, a surgeon's wife was one of my regular PITAs.
She came in pretty regularly to scream at me about her overdraft charges.  How dare, I charge her for 18, 22, 35...whatever... overdraft charges as her husband made millions.  She couldn't appreciate that there was no money in the account.  The surgeon, also, got angry with me when I called him to tell him the bank was going to repossess his car.  Seemingly, he was under the assumption he had money in the bank. (what a fool)

To prove his extreme displeasure with me and the bank, he torched his car and called me to come and get it. He actually thought this was great fun and came in to pay the car off so technically at that point the car was his to do whatever he wanted to with it.  I don't think he ever understood that, while he proved his point that he had money, (albeit, not in our bank) he was out the car.  Had the doctor (sh**head) paid the car off in the first place, I wouldn't have threatened repossession and he would still have his Beamer.

Thought #2  Advertisers are using this idea of Marital Discord to sell there products

My Kiddo #2 mentioned last week that his new "commercial to hate" is an AT&T commercial.  He said that it is appearing all the time and it is just ridiculous.  Tell me more I say.  As I personally never watch commercials (thank-you, my pal Tivo) I had no idea what he was talking about.

Seems that AT&T in there infinite wisdom has, again, come up with a commercial that makes no sense and has nothing to do with their product.  As you might remember, I sent a letter to them about one of their other stupid commercials and got a "less than friendly" letter from them.  In my article To Offend or Not Offend I was merely pointing out that I didn't see how two guys in a bar talking about want to become "players" had a good connotation to sell their phones.  They wrote back saying something to the effect "sorry we offended you".  I maintain I wasn't offended, I just think their marketing firm consists of a bunch of idiots.

Seems they still are using those same idiots for their advertising.

Yeah, idiots!!! What are they promoting here???? That this wife is a total BE-ATCH or that this husband is the best example on the planet as a cowering hen-pecked, spineless husband.  (dare I say pu***whipped)
And might I add, I don't think this couple looks like an actual couple.  I initially thought the bitchy wife was the mother until she referred to herself as the wife.

I can't see where this would inspire me to run out and change my cell phone plan.  I would write them another letter but I might get another letter back with "Sorry, you were offended."

So, my bloggee friends....just be on the look out that there might be some NEW tensions brewing in your present environment of marital bliss. According to KC NBC news, send your thank-you to the economy and be sure to go out and sign up with AT&T

The Good for the Day....The couples that agree on their finances

The Bad for the Day...Idiot marketing

The Weird for the Day....The waste of a perfectly good BMW

The guy in the AT&T commercial must of gotten his direction from the Man Song

What You Might Have Missed

Here it is another Friday and I am so worried that you might have missed all the bizarre, inconsequential, stupid, main-stream news this week because of the Network News Loop. Here is my theory,  the networks pretape the stories that they believe to be the most interesting, put them on a computer that just keeps looping them over and over and over....

Pre-recorded news for the week of April 17-24

I know these three stories are of great importance especially the upcoming nuptials but to be fair to some of the other events that are happening, I thought I might bring you up to speed.

Just to keep you IN THE KNOW here are a few things you might have missed.

1. Homeland Security has done away with the multi-level, multi-colored warning system.  In the case of emergency, you might actually want a working knowledge of this one.  Well...really...I can't give you a working knowledge of this as I am not sure how it is going to work BUT this is what I know.

The old system is no more.   The old one that you see on the right,  is history.   Just forget you ever saw it.  I realize that this old one might have had a certain amount of confusion surrounding it, as the government changed the levels 16 times in the ten+ years since it's inception.  However, it was kind of pretty as systems go; as least as far as systems that are designed  to stamp our city or town with an expiration date.

But, alas, progress.  We now have a new system.  ARE YOU READY?

                                   IMMINENT
                            ELEVATED

There you have it.  The complete new system to let us know our level of
immediate danger.  I am so relieved that this sure-fire system was designed  (probably took thousands of hours of planning) just so we could all sleep peacefully  at night.

I do have just a couple of itty-bitty little questions though.

Now according to the plan when we get one of these alerts they are supposed to let us know exactly what the danger is.  The press release tells us that it will be area specific and they will use Facebook and Twitter in the execution of getting the warnings out to us.  So here are a few of my questions.

A.  Do I need to become a follower on my Twitter account to Homeland Security? AND because I am me, will I stay focused enough to read Homeland Security's tweet before I read Sarah Silverman's or Funny One Liners?
B.  Can they stick to the 140 characters or less on any emergency that impacts my living longer than my current age? (which remains a mystery) Also, note that I have run a couple of tests on my Twitter account to the right, to make sure my Emergency Tweet Broadcast System is working effectively.
C. Do I need to press the "Confirm as a Friend" button on my Facebook page to make Homeland Security my friend?
D.  If I am in elevated danger does that mean I stand a fighting chance of protecting myself versus what the word imminent implies,  MY ASS IS TOAST?
E.  If the old system got changed 16 times what is the realistic change count for this one?
F.  What if the people "from no place in particular" don't know what the words elevated or imminent mean? Are they automatically doomed? Maybe you could put in parentheses behind elevated  (things aren't looking good) and behind imminent (oh, sh**, hope you have all your affairs in order!).

I am hopeful that Homeland Security will get back to me on this quickly but I have my doubts.  The first release of the new system was on January  27th but the public was notified last night. (April 20) Of course, this could be that I didn't notice a tweet.

2.  Another news release for this week....The Dept. of Transportation is enacting new rules for the airlines to help protect consumer rights.

Here are a few of the key points.

All fees that are associated with the price of your ticket have to be prominently disclosed.  So, all taxes and government fees will show up on the price of your ticket.  No guessing about the extra costs.  This is nice.
The only down side I see, is that now that ticket that used to show as $250.00 then later became $295.00 when you actually paid for it, starts out as $295.00.  No more surprises.  You get the kick to your private parts over with quickly so you can move on with the rest of your day.

Also, airlines have to prominently display all the add-on costs that are not directly associated with mandated taxes and fees.  Those little incidentals like baggage fees, meals, a place to put your legs, a blanket, a pillow, earphones for those that choose not to try to lip read the movie, (providing you are on a flight that has a movie..really you are expecting a lot  for your $1122.00 round trip fare, aren't you?)

Now here is one you might like.  If they lose your luggage, you get the fee that you paid to bring a suitcase with you, returned.  (Really, what were you thinking that made you want to check a bag  in the first place?   With that kind of backward thinking, I am not sure you deserve a refund.)

Also,  if you get involuntarily bumped from your flight you will be recouping $650 -$1330 depending on how long you are delayed.  I did notice that the article I was reading to acquire all this  information said that in the past you could  get $400-$800 for being bumped. What?  Who did?  I have gotten bumped  before and never got a dime.  I think there must be a system that I am not aware of. I suppose I needed to check out their web site at www.ifyournotageekyoudontdeserveourrespect(dot)com.

For a more thorough understanding of all the new bonuses you get to pay for when you fly, here is a nice little article that talks about the fun financials of flying. New Rules for Flyers

Couple little quickies that are flying under the radar as far as news goes.

3. Rod Blagojevich's trial started Wednesday.  For any of you that watched Rod on Celebrity Apprentice, you already know the real entertainment value associated with this trial.  It has nothing to to with Illinois politics, which is notoriously good for some laughs but more the fact that as reality stars go, that Rod is totally fun to watch. (Just think of Moe in the Three Stooges)
4. The Phallological Museum in Husavik, Iceland got it's first human penis for display.  The "Penis" museum is excited at it's latest acquisition. They received the donated pickled penis (say that 3 times really fast) after waiting for 15 years for a donor to actually deliver on his promise. The museum curator Sigurdur Hjartarson, said this rounds out the extensive collection of phalluses from numerous other mammals including whales, seals and bears (oh my)

So blogees, there is a little news to tide you over till the news loop changes. Have a Happy Easter for those that celebrate the holiday.

No tie in on the video today.  Just for fun.

The Good for the day....Here comes Peter Cotton Tail, hopping down the Bunny Trail, Hippity, Hoppity, Easter's on its way....

The Bad for the Day...The penis that was donated (albeit pickled) was that of a 95 year old man. I am thinking that is bad.  Probably not in the best shape of it's life.

The Weird for the Day.....A passenger on a bus in Argentina was arrested after authorities were tipped off to the fact that he was smuggling 444 snakes, 186 turtles, 40 lizards and one armadillo in assorted pieces of luggage.  Creepy...snakes on a bus.  Sound like a movie sequel to Snakes on a Plane. But why just one armadillo?

There is NO NEWS in Kansas

Yesterday, I was listening to the 5:00 local news as I usually do. It started in the normal manner. First a few headlines about traffic, then a little about weather, then things got weird.  The next FOUR news stories were all out of Florida.  This wouldn't be odd if I lived in Florida, I suppose.  The fact that I live in Kansas made it feel a little surreal.

Did I accidentally step  into some space and time warp kind of thing and I am now in Florida?

Did Kansas run completely out of news of any kind and had to borrow?

Are Kansas and Florida playing tag and Kansas just yelled, YOUR IT?

I am not sure why we are running just Florida news but here are some news stories if you aren't lucky enough to have your state borrowing from FL. too.  (Sorry, to my Florida readers, as this probably isn't news to you. The next time Kansas acts up and has something to talk about you can borrow from us.  You shouldn't have to wait long.  We have people acting badly here pretty regularly)

The First Story-----Aide Locks Reporter in Closet During Fundraiser

An aid to Joe Biden locked a reporter from the Orlando Sentinel into a closet  for hours during a fundraiser to keep him from interacting with the guests.  The fund raiser was a $500 a-head  dinner to raise money for the 2012 elections.

Spokeswoman Elizabeth Alexander said the decision to hold the local reporter, Scott Powers, was a mistake.

As the unaware  invitees dined on caprese crostini with oven-dried mozzarella and basil, rosemary flatbread with grapes honey and Gorgonzola cheese, grilled chicken Caesar and garden vegetable wraps, last week, the veteran reporter was locked away. They let him out to listen to Vice President Biden  and Sen. Bill Nelson speak and escorted him back into the closet for the duration of the event.

The event was held at the Winter Park, FL home of Alan Ginsburg, who was shocked when he found out of the reporter's situation.

Note:  One of the interesting things about this is, while Scott was in the closet he emailed his office with
"It sounds like a nice party out there".  REALLY, how calm is this guy?  Most people would have been losing their minds.

The Second Story---- Teen Pistol Whips Mother to Get New Car

A teenaged girl, Rachel Anne Hachero, threatened to kill her mother after she refused to buy her a car.
Rachel had her eye on a 2004 Nissan 350Z that her mother wasn't willing to purchase, so the girl took a stronger tact.  She confronted her mother with a 9mm gun, pistol whipped her head, and then pointed the gun at her threatening to shoot if she didn't cooperate.   The daughter forced her mother to the Fort Myers, FL Nissan dealership to sign for the car.

The mother has been quoted as not wanting to press charges as her daughter is an Ivy League college, hopeful and this might hurt her future. (my guess is, oh yeah, it will be a deterrent for sure)

Police say that the mother had found the gun, drugs, and drug paraphernalia in her daughter's purse.  (Hey, mom, how many clues do you need to figure out you have a problem child on your hands?)

Third Story--- Bikini Brawl

A bikini clad spring breaker that had placed an order at the Panama City Burger King started a riot when she jumped onto the counter and started swinging at the food prep employees while yelling that her order was taking too long.

(I guess when you want fast food, you want the food FAST)

The restaurant quickly turned into a massive food fight with other spring breakers throwing objects all over the restaurant.

The events were caught on someone's cell phone.  (cell phone cams are not  the best but you will get the gist of it)

Kemesia Smith, the impatient riot starter, was arrested and charged with battery.

The Forth Story... Woman Falls Into Sink Hole

A Plant City woman,  47-year-old Carla Chapman,  was walking in her backyard Monday when she fell after the ground caved in underneath her feet. The hole was about 24 inches wide.

Champman, luckily was carrying her cell phone and was able to call for help. In the on-camera news report, it was stated that she had some trouble getting a cellular signal which added to the time that  it took to free her.
Responding officers were able to pull her out of the hole and she was transported to an area hospital. She is listed in stable condition.

NOTE:  This is where that commercial "Can you hear me now?" takes on a whole new meaning.

The Weird for the day.... woman gets caught under a 300 pound Eagle Ray

Just to keep the Florida theme going here.

Miami (CNN) -- A Florida woman said she went into "survival mode" when a huge eagle ray weighing as much as 300 pounds landed on top of her on a boat in the Florida Keys, throwing her to the deck and pinning her underneath it. With the help of her husband and sons, she was able to slide out from under the massive creature that was about 8 feet across with a 10 foot tail.
